Class Description and Registration



Dr. Aarlan Aceto, OD is a graduate of both the New England College of Optometry (2009) and Ophthalmic Design and Dispensing program at Middlesex Community College (1995).  He is currently the Program Director and an Associate Professor of the OD&D program at Middlesex.  Dr. Aceto has previously was served as the Externship Director and Assistant Professor developing and teaching courses for two different Optometry programs (MCPHS University and the Midwestern University Chicago College of Optometry) in the areas of Ophthalmic Optics, Contact Lenses, Business Management and Service Learning.  He has been very involved in Organized Optometry (IOA and CAO), Opticianry (COA), has served as the chair of the Ophthalmic Optics SIG for the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) and is the current president of the National Federation of Opticianry Schools (NFOS).  He has also served in other volunteer organizations, including as the past president of the Downers Grove IL Lions Club. 

Judith Boyer Lew LDO, ABO-C

Professional Development Director-Opticianry, Essilor of America.

Judy Lew has spent over 40 years in the industry, starting as a graduate of the ophthalmic optics program at Ferris University in Michigan. As the Professional Development Director at Essilor, her primary focus is to support the profession of opticianry, working closely with the respective schools and associations throughout the United States. Previously, she was responsible for developing and implementing training initiatives at Essilor as well as speaking nationally as a CE educator. Judy is a Florida licensed optician & ABO certified, board member for the National Academy of Opticianry(NAO) and a commissioner for the Commission on Opticianry Accreditation (COA). Originally from Indiana, she currently resides in St. Petersburg, Fl with her husband Alan.

Michael Gatti

Michael Gatti is ABO and NCLE certified as well as an Arizona State Licensed Optician with over 15 years of optical experience and a technical level 2 ABO approved speaker. As a team-leader and motivational speaker, Michael doubled optical sales over his 7 years with one of the largest ophthalmology practices in the state of Arizona. He then went on to manage an independent optometric practice before becoming a Territory Sales Manager for HOYA Vision Care, an independent ophthalmic lab. Over the last 5 years Michael has worked as a Field Training Manager, Customer Development Manager and is now the Senior Technical Marketing and Training Manager for HOYA.  Michael is a motivational educator who has extensive optical and practice building knowledge. Nothing gives Michael more pleasure than helping independent Eye Care Professionals experience rapid and sustained growth in their practice. Because of his successes and youthful enthusiasm, he has appeared in numerous trade articles.

Bob Alexander

Bob is a graduate of Hocking College with an AAS in Opticianry where he became one of only two 2-time  President’s Lists Award winners and was the Outstanding Graduate of his class. He is a Dual Licensed  Optician in OH, holds the certifications of Advanced Contact Lens Technician, Master in Ophthalmic  Optics, NCLE and ABO Technical Level III speaker.  He began his career as a licensed optician in Athens, OH and eventually moved to store manager. Later  he accepted the position of Lens Consultant at Vision Ease where in 2016 he was awarded the inaugural  Lens Consultant of the Year award. His career path provides experience in wholesale, retail, and  independent ECP optical markets allowing a broad view approach to continuing education.
Bob is currently employed as Training & Technical Marketing Partner at Maui Jim Eyewear and  volunteers time to the
Opticians Association of Ohio serving as Vice-President.

Randy Smith, ABOM

I am an ABO Master Optician with more than 35 years of Opticianry experience in the profession. I have lectured locally and nationally for over 25 years. I taught opticianry courses at the college level for 25 years. I have served on the board of directors of the ABO-NCLE, NAO, and NFOS. I am currently the Director of Examinations and Chief Psychometrician for the American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners.

Andy Bangert

Walman Optical

Andy Bangert is a 1999 graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry with an Opticianry degree. He has worked as an optician and eventually became an office manager. He spent two years at Shamir Insight followed up as account Executive for Harbor Optical and Walman Optical.
